Details, Inspections, Plans and Decisions

Not a lot new to see on the site this week.  The framing crew was working on small details.  The welder completed the steel portal and beams.  Roof framing and exterior sheathing passed inspection.  Our general contractor and architect met with the plumbing, HVAC and electrical subcontractors and planned their rough in work.  The roofer designed the downspout plan and should start installing the roof on Tuesday.  We selected our gas fireplace - Heat and Glo's new Mezzo linear fireplace.  So, instead, here are a couple of photos showing the beauty and fun we are experiencing while living in Boulder.  Enjoy the Labor Day weekend!

Topped Off

The roof was completely framed last week, with just a few small details left for this week.  Also, a lot of the exterior plywood sheeting has been installed.  The house is really taking shape.  It is thrilling to walk around and see the views from each of the windows.  The views from the 3rd floor windows and deck are dramatic and the two huge windows on the 2nd floor provide a panoramic view of the foothills, downtown Golden, and Clear Creek canyon.

Roof Framing

This was a busy week.  The weather didn't interfere, except late in the day.  The framing of the stair column was finished - damn it is tall. The framers started installing the roof on the 3rd floor and over the garage.  And, Ian came home for a surprise visit and got to see the house nearly all framed.  It was fun to have both Ian and Katie at the site on Saturday!

3rd floor rising

This weekend, we had the first opportunity to climb up a ladder to the 3rd floor and glimpse the stunning view.   We can see from castle rock on S. Table Mountain (iconic in the Coors logo) to downtown Golden and the School of Mines to the entrance of Clear Creek to the foothills along north Golden.  It was spectacular!

Rain, Crane and Lumber

Lumber for the 3rd floor and decks was delivered early in the week.  We are quickly running out of space to store it.  Rain shut down work on Wednesday, but we never complain about receiving moisture in Colorado.  A crane arrived on Thursday to start the framing of the 3rd floor.  It lifted steel for the portal on the SW corner and two beams to support the floor joists.  The framers also brought out a large forklift to lift all that lumber to the 3rd floor.  We are looking forward to seeing the view.
